“For too long I’d had a nagging feeling there was more to life than this.
 
“This” being a corporate job I was competent at and which afforded a pleasant enough, materially comfortable lifestyle, but, while there were moments of satisfaction, moments of joy and real inspiration were few and far between.
 
It also took up an inordinate amount of time and energy - working long hours was the norm and when I wasn't there, I was often worrying about it, to the detriment of friendships, relationships, goals in other walks of life and, increasingly, health.
